He had always been interested in art and had enjoyed painting and stained glass lamp making and visiting museums during his years as a surgeon. With more time to devote to art after retirement, Ed took classes at the College of Charleston from 2001 to 2007. He earned Bachelors of Arts in Studio Arts and Art History.

Interests and Influences

Ed enjoys painting, sculpting, and drawing. His main influences are contemporary realism, such as Chuck Close, and old masters, such as Rembrandt. Ed is interested in exploring less realistic modes of representation and anticipates that his work may evolve in that direction.
